Many areas of the country have high entrepreneurship rates, as evidenced by the percentage of the population engaged in new small business ventures. According to the Kauffman Indicators of Entrepreneurship, which tracks key trends in new business ventures, 0.32 percent of the population started a new business in 2018. Many of those millions of entrepreneurs are located in key states with high rates of new business startups. In 2018, the states with the largest percentage of the population engaged in new business included Florida, California, Wyoming, Texas, Alaska, New Mexico, and Georgia. Additional findings indicate that the number of female entrepreneurs is on the rise.
